Fixtures
- Hibernian Vs. Aberdeen - Sun, Jan 19th 2025, 16:00
The Lowdown
Grant Scott's side head into the final four clash in terrific form, with recent results - Motherwell (4-0), Rangers (0-3), Spartans (6-0) and Dundee United (0-5) - seeing us into Sunday's Semi-Final on a four-game winning streak without conceding.
Wednesday night's 5-0 away victory over Suzy Shepherd's United at Foundation Park also extended our unbeaten league run to ten games, a streak that stretches back to early October.
Poppy Lawson opened the scoring with a thunderous long-range effort on 13 minutes, with Abbie Ferguson doubling our lead minutes later with a back-post finish. Kirsten Reilly curled in a sublime free-kick before the break, before Kirsty Morrison and Eilidh Adams both netted following the restart to secure a big win on the road.
Hibs are the most successful club in League Cup history, winning the competition seven times since our first triumph during the 2004/05 season.
Our most recent Final victory came in 2019, when Glasgow City were defeated on penalties after a goalless draw.
After hitting Queen's Park for seven without reply in the last 16 of this season's competition, the girls booked their place in the Semi-Finals with a memorable final eight victory over Partick Thistle in November.
Poppy Lawson's excellent opener was quickly nullified by a Thistle equaliser at a sun-kissed Petershill Park, but a remarkable second-half hat-trick from Kathleen McGovern fired us through.
The Opponents
Aberdeen earned their spot in the Sky Sports Cup Semi-Final by seeing off ScottishPower Women's Premier League 2 side's Gartcairn and Boroughmuir Thistle by two-goal margins in the Second Round and Quarter-Finals, respectively.
Hoping to reach their first-ever League Cup Final, Scott Booth's side will be desperate to improve on recent results since the winter break - with the Dons losing out in two difficult away trips to Glasgow City (1-6) and Celtic (0-8) over the past week.
The two clubs have met once before in the Semi-Final stage of this competition, with the Hibees emerging as 4-0 winners on the day.
The Reds have struggled historically in the past versus Hibs, winning just three times and losing 40 of our previous 46 meetings.
Our two clashes this campaign have both went the way of Hibs, with Grant Scott's side securing 7-1 and 7-0 wins, home and away, against the Reds - who currently sit tenth-place in the SWPL table.
