Previous Meetings With Clydebank FC

0 4

Ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup Fourth Round clash with Clydebank – we took a look back at some of our previous meetings with ‘The Bankies’.

Technically, this will be the first time we have faced the newly reformed phoenix club, Clydebank FC –  after the former Clydebank team was bought out by Airdrie in 2002.

Led by Clydebank supporters, the club re-established in 2003 joining the West Region of the Junior Football League structure.

Previous Meetings

Before their reformation, the Hibees played against Clydebank FC frequently from the late 70s to the turn of the millennium.

The last time the two sides met was in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round in February 2000.

The Hibees were held to a 1-1 draw at Easter Road with Paul Hartley cancelling out Lee Gardner’s opener in the second half. Both sides finished the match with 10-men and the game was replayed 10 days later at Cappielow.

In the replay, Alex McLeish’s Hibees proved too strong for the Bankies – running out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Dirk Lehmann, Stuart Lovell and Franck Sauzée.

Hibs went on to reach the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup that year, losing to Aberdeen 2-1 at Hampden Park.

Another memorable meeting was in February 1992, once again in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round (pictured below).

The Hibees ran out comfortable 5-1 winners on the day, with five different scorers finding the back of the net at New Kilbowie Park – Pat McGinlay, Mickey Weir, Tommy McIntyre, Keith Wright and Gareth Evans.

Hibernian Assistant Head Coach Eddie May enjoys a goal against Clydebank – having scored three goals in seven appearances in the mid-1980s.

In our last 28 matches with Clydebank our record is – played 28, won 17, drawn 7, lost 4.
