Conflicting reports emerge about Timo Werner leaving Tottenham in January
Timo Werner is being linked with a move to a Bundesliga club this month, but one Sky Sports journalist has provided a big update on the Tottenham transfer rumour.
Struggling Tottenham man on the radar of Eintracht Frankfurt
While Timo Werner has been effective on occasions for Spurs, on the whole, he has failed to set the world alight during his loan spell. The inconsistent nature of his final product continues to be a subject of much discussion in North London.
It has now been suggested that Werner could cut short his Spurs loan spell this month and head elsewhere for more consistent minutes.
According to reports, Eintracht Frankfurt may look to make a move for the RB Leipzig-owned forward to replace Omar Marmoush – who is reportedly close to leaving the Bundesliga.
Contradictory claims made about Timo Werner’s future
Football Insider report that Marmoush is expected to join Manchester City, and that Frankfurt are assessing the market for forward options to replace the Egyptian.
One name who is prominent on their wishlist is Werner, who, despite his struggles in the Premier League, has a fantastic Bundesliga record, with 102 goals and 46 assists in 257 league games.
However, this claim is rubbished by Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who makes it clear that the on-loan Tottenham man is not an option that Frankfurt are considering.
He asserts that the former Chelsea man will fulfil his loan contract at Spurs until the end of the season.
Ange Postecoglou will not want to let Werner go
Werner might not be good enough to be a starter for a top-four side in the Premier League, but he does have some useful attributes and remains a serviceable squad option.
While Postecoglou may hope that he does not have to use the 28-year-old a lot over the coming months, he would certainly not want to voluntarily sacrifice a squad option, particularly given the number of injuries his players are picking up.
