Predicted Tottenham XI to face Liverpool – Rodrigo Bentancur returns

0 14

Tottenham will be aiming to get a foot into the finals of the Carabao Cup with a victory in the first leg of the semi-finals, as they host Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But can they overcome a Liverpool side in fine form? Let’s take a look at our predicted Tottenham XI to face Liverpool.

Predicted Tottenham XI to face Liverpool

Goalkeeper – Brandon Austin: The goalkeeper position is a little tricky as we do not have any updates on the fitness of backup choice Fraser Forster who did not start against Newcastle in the weekend. Although Spurs have signed a new goalkeeper, it is very unlikely that he will feature. This means Austin should start in goal.

Right-back – Pedro Porro: Porro had one of his best games in a while in the clash against Newcastle last weekend, hopefully, he can build on his impressive performance in this semi-final clash against Liverpool.

Centre-back – Radu Dragusin: Again there is no update as to why Radu was subbed at half-time. Perhaps a case of him dealing with illness – if he is fit to start here, then we expect him to return back to the side.

Centre-back – Archie Gray: I mean Archie Gray has started more games than he probably imagined he would. Despite being out of position the young midfielder has given a good account of himself and he will be amongst the starting centre-backs for this game.

Left-back – Djed Spence: Destiny Udogie is still out which leaves Spurs with Spence and Regulion. We expect Djed to take up the left-back spot despite his brief stint as a centre-back in the clash against Newcastle United.

Pivot midfielder – Yves Bissouma: Bissouma was handed a rest in the game against Newcastle United and when he came on he brought some control and defensive stability. These are qualities Ange Postecoglou will be looking for in the game against the Reds, so Biss should return to the XI.

Central midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: After completing his one-game ban in the Premier League, Bentancur could be back in the starting eleven this midweek in place of Sarr. His inclusion hopefully brings some energy to the midfield.

Central midfielder – Dejan Kulusevski: Kulusevski has been one of Totteham’s bright sparks this season and we could see Ange make use of his energy and versatility in this game. I believe he will be preferred over Johnson because of his energy and ability to run and track back; which will be of use against whichever winger Arne Slot starts.

Right midfielder – Brennan Johnson: The Welshman should have really scored against Newcastle at the weekend, and will surely relish a chance to make the most of the space in behind the Liverpool defence. Without James Maddison and Pape Sarr (both suspended), Spurs need to shift Kulusevski into midfield, which offers another chance for Brennan to impress.

Striker – Dominic Solanke: Solanke has been getting goals of late. His strike against Newcastle meant that he is now into double figures for goals and assists – the forward has bagged seven goals, one of which came against Liverpool and he has also managed three assists. He will have to wait till the weekend before he is handed a rest – this means he should lead the line on Wednesday evening.

Left midfielder – Heung-min Son: After being left on the bench in the clash against Newcastle United, Son came in looking like a man with a point to prove. In all fairness to him, he was sharp and looked to make things happen – hopefully, we get a hungry Son against Liverpool. The Lilywhites will need everyone to be at their best if they are to secure a win. Son should start on the left. If Trent Alexander-Arnold starts for Liverpool, Son needs to directly run at him all day long.
