Luka Vuskovic identifies weakness he must improve to shine at Spurs
Ahead of linking up with Spurs next summer, Luka Vuskovic admits there is one part of his game that he is still keen to work on.
Luka Vuskovic continues to dazzle in the Belgian topflight
Tottenham‘s decision to sign Vuskovic appears to be a masterstroke in light of the outstanding displays that the centre-back has delivered on loan at Westerlo this season.
The 17-year-old has established himself as a mainstay in the heart of the Belgium club’s backline and is displaying maturity beyond his years.
The Croat is certainly not your average centre-back, contributing heavily in attack, not only finding the back of the net five times so far this season but also in a league of his won when it comes to various attacking metrics in comparison to the other defenders in the Jupiler Pro League.
Luka Vuskovic admits one weakness ahead of Spurs arrival
The impressive moments that the teenager is producing in the final third should not overshadow the solid defensive displays that he is delivering this season.
Vuskovic is extremely physically imposing and dominates duals in a manner one rarely sees from players of his age. However, the youngster has now confessed that he sees his lack of pace as the one area that he has to work on.
The on-loan Tottenham man told Sportske Novosti: “In my game, I am satisfied with everything except one thing – speed. I work on improving it every day.”
Pace is crucial to play in an Ange Postecoglou defensive line
Recovery pace is something that a centre-back needs to have to be able to play in Tottenham’s high defensive line, which is why that is something Vuskovic would have to work on.
However, pace is something that players either naturally have or do not, and there is only so much quicker a 193-centimetre-tall man can sprint.
Having said that, we have seen many other top centre-backs compensate for their lack of raw pace by reading situations quickly.
In fact, that was a characteristic that defined Spurs legend Ledley King, who although possessed good pace, rarely needed to sprint, because he was always at the right place at the right time.
