Red Sox Rumors: New Intel On Boston’s Teoscar Hernández  Pursuit

Teoscar Hernández probably would be a great fit in Boston, but it’s starting to seem like the Red Sox won’t sign the veteran slugger.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal on Monday noted how he “still expects” Hernández to stay in Los Angeles even though the Dodgers reportedly started looking into potential replacements for the two-time All-Star. But even if Hernández doesn’t stand pat in Chavez Ravine, that doesn’t mean he will shift to Fenway Park.

“Doesn’t sound like the Red Sox have intensified their efforts on Teoscar Hernández, at least to this point,” MassLive’s Chris Cotillo posted to X on Monday.

After losing out on Juan Soto, Boston might be under the impression that it will have to land Hernández via overpay. The 32-year-old reportedly wants a three-year contract worth between $66 million and $72 million, which might be too expensive for the Red Sox as they evaluate their upcoming expenses.

Boston could still add an impactful right-handed bat if it doesn’t land Hernández, though. The Red Sox appear to be one of the frontrunners to sign free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman, who has a big fan in manager Alex Cora and has the skills to thrive in Boston.
