NIRSA’s top ten of 2024
2024 has been a year to remember—packed with moments that shaped our community and got everyone clicking and commenting. We invite you to look back at some of NIRSA’s top stories from this past year and catch up on any highlights you may have missed!
#10 – Bill Crocket, 2024 Honor Award recipient
In February, the Association announced “Bill Crocket [as] the 2024 recipient of NIRSA’s Honor Award.” Bill’s career at University of Maryland, Baltimore is impressive and his impact on NIRSA will long be remembered in the annals of NIRSA history. (9-minute read)
#9 – Student leader candidate announcement
Student elections for roles on the NIRSA Member Network took place in early March. Meet the candidates for [seven] NIRSA student leadership positions who have been serving the association on behalf of their regions since May 1, 2024. (1-minute read)
#8 – NIRSA sells its headquarters building in Oregon
In February of this year, the Association announced that “NIRSA Headquarters has been sold – NIRSA staff are now fully remote.” The property, acquired in 1994, and the building, dedicated in 1998, sold earlier this year, with the proceeds from the sale being directed into NIRSA reserve funds. NIRSA now has staff located in every time zone in North America. (2-minute read)

In the spring of this year, “NIRSA announced an ‘Industry Insights’ report,” revealing new details from the Association that helped shed light on the context of campus recreation today and shared potential, concrete strategies to address the challenges facing many departments. (2-minute read)
#6 – Brent Harrison, 2024 Foundation Leadership Award recipient
