Tottenham unlikely to return for summer target despite £21m price tag
One right-back who was on Tottenham’s radar back in the summer, is expected to be in the shop window during the upcoming transfer window. However, Spurs are seemingly not set to return.
Brazilian was on Tottenham’s wishlist in the summer
It was widely reported back in the summer that the North London club were eyeing a deal for Monaco’s Vanderson, with the club allegedly considering him as a potential replacement for Emerson Royal.
However, the 23-year-old stayed put at the Ligue 1 club, with Spurs deciding to retain Djed Spence and sign Archie Gray, who has primarily operated as a right-back so far this season.
Vanderson is now back in the shop window
A report from L’Equipe points out that Spurs sniffed around the Monaco man in the January window.
However, it is explained that the Lilywhites’ interest in the full-back never materialised in the summer, indicating an unwillingness to make an offer.
The publication adds that Monaco are now willing to sell the Brazil international as well as fellow defender, Caio Henrique, in January.
It is revealed that an offer of around €25m (£20.6m) would be needed to swoop for Vanderson next month.
Will Tottenham move for Vanderson in January?
A right-back is not likely to be at the top of Ange Postecoglou‘s priority list for January, with Spurs having three options in Porro, Gray and Spence.
A left-back and potentially a centre-back is likely to be a bigger priority, particularly given the injuries Tottenham have had to deal with in those positions.
