Spurs receive Dejan Kulusevski boost ahead of Man City clash
Ange Postecoglou delivers some good news regarding the fitness of Spurs midfielder Dejan Kulusevski ahead of his side’s trip to the Etihad Stadium this afternoon.
Tottenham will be without several important players
In his press conference on Friday, Postecoglou confirmed what many Spurs fans were fearing, revealing that Micky van de Ven is still some way away from being fully fit, while his centre-back partner, Cristian Romero, is also not ready to face Manchester City.
That means that Spurs will likely line up with Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies as their centre-back at the Etihad Stadium, which is far from ideal against the Premier League champions.
However, Postecoglou did deliver some good news ahead of the big game, revealing that one of Tottenham’s most important players is fit to start despite picking up a knock during the international break.
Ange Postecoglou Spurs update on Dejan Kulusevski
There were some worries about Kulusevski after the attacking midfielder went down clutching his shoulder towards the final few minutes of Sweden’s Nations League win over Azerbaijan on Tuesday.
The same shoulder had been causing the 24-year-old plenty of distress over recent weeks, which is why some fans would have feared the worst.
However, when asked about Kulusevski‘s shoulder problem, Postecoglou said (via Football.London): “No, it’s nothing major and actually he’s improved since he went away.
“Coming back today he actually feels better, it’s just he’s had a couple of significant knocks all in the same area in the last couple of weeks, but nothing permanent or major that needs any attention.”
Tottenham’s recent Premier League record against Manchester City
Kulusevski will be raring to go against Man City
Having Kulusevski fit is a huge boost to Tottenham‘s chances of getting something from the game at the Etihad. We know that the former Juventus man loves playing against Pep Guardiola’s side and has an excellent record against them since arriving at Spurs.
If the Lilywhites can get him on the ball in the attacking areas frequently, there is no doubt that he can hurt City. Given the injuries that Tottenham have, attack might be their best form of defence this afternoon.
