Ange Postecoglou delighted with Spurs announcement – ‘We want to stand out’

Ange Postecoglou has spoken about the branding changes that Tottenham Hotspur have introduced this week, with the Australian explaining why the new branding is a great fit for what the club are trying to achieve.

Tottenham’s branding changes

Tottenham announced changes to several elements of the club’s branding earlier this week.

This includes tweaks to the famous cockerel, with the curved ‘Tottenham Hotspur‘ text removed from beneath the cockerel, with the club explaining that they have done so to increase its scale across different environments.

Further, they revealed that the cockerel will now be supported by a new silhouette version that allows for “a more playful expression of the brand across different spaces.”

Apart from the changes to the club’s main logo, they have also remastered the famous ‘THFC monogram’, which has been used since the 1950s.

The club have also developed “a suite of hallmarks to celebrate key heritage features”, including the Seven Sisters Trees, Bruce Castle and 1882 (the club’s founding year), to support their brand’s storytelling.

Ange Postecoglou reacts to the announcement

Postecoglou likes the bold changes that the club have announced, suggesting that it ties in with the club’s ethos of wanting to create something special.

The Tottenham boss suggested that the new tweaks help the club stand out from the rest, admitting that everyone at Spurs is keen to do things their own way.

Postecoglou told the club’s official website: “We want to be a certain type of football club – we want success like everyone else, but we want to arrive there doing it our way.

“The brand represents consistently challenging what you do and looking for an edge – when you do get it right, you create something special.

“It encapsulates values that are ingrained in what this football club is – we want our people to dream and we want to stand out from the rest and do things a little bit differently.”

Minimalist approach to tweaks

Some traditionalists may not be happy at all that the club are tweaking any elements of the brand.

However, Spurs have made minimal tweaks and have been wary of making sweeping changes, given the history associated with these symbols.
