Tottenham loanee Bryan Gil scores his first senior goal for Spain
Bryan Gil netted his first international goal on his fifth senior appearance for his country to help Spain seal a dramatic Nations League win.
Tottenham attacker’s impressive start to the season continues
Bryan Gil has impressed since his loan move to Girona, having been a constant threat down the left for the La Liga side.
His impressive displays saw him being recalled to the Spain squad last month but unfortunately, he had to pull out due to an injury on that occasion.
However, the 23-year-old did manage to make it out onto the pitch in La Roja’s win over Switzerland on Monday and repaid the faith shown in him by Luis de la Fuente by making a decisive contribution.
Bryan Gil helps Spain seal a hard-fought win
It was a tightly contested affair at Tenerife, where Yeremy Pino gave Spain the lead on 32 minutes before Joel Monteiro equalised for the away side on 63 minutes.
Gil, who replaced Nico Williams on the hour mark, restored the lead for Spain on 68 minutes with an impressive strike.
After seeing his pass intercepted, the on-loan Tottenham man won the ball back inside the box and showed quick feet before producing a rasping drive into the far post.
The drama did not end there as Andi Zeqiri netted an 85th penalty to restore parity before Bryan Zaragoza won another spot-kick at the other end of the pitch in injury time and stepped up to convert it himself, giving the European champions all three points.
Gil looks certain to leave Spurs next summer
It was widely reported in the summer that before Gil’s loan move from Spurs, a £12.5m release clause was added to the Spaniard’s contract, which will become active next summer (Fabrizio Romano).
If the winger keeps performing the way he is, several La Liga sides will line up to pay the release clause at the end of the season.
