Spurs are one of the fairest teams in Premier League history, and the stats prove it

A study has been carried out into the history of the Premier League to determine the dirtiest teams to feature in the English top flight, and Spurs fans will be happy to see their team towards the bottom of a league table for once.

In general, you are likely to find very few football followers who would pick out Spurs as one of the dirtiest teams, and they are not exactly a club one associates with the so-called dark arts.

But, the study undertaken by FlashScore finally proves that Tottenham are a fair team. In fact, there are only three teams below them in the ranking of fouls per game throughout the Premier League era.

Looking at every team that has played more than 380 fixtures (equivalent to ten seasons) in the top division, the data revealed Spurs have played 912 games and committed 10,200 fouls in that time.

That amounts to an average of 11.18 fouls per game. Below Spurs in the list are Manchester United (11.17 fouls per game), West Ham (11.17 fouls per game), and Chelsea with 11.09 fouls per game.

Interestingly, Spurs have a better yellow card per game ratio than both United and the Hammers, receiving 1.58 bookings per game, while their rivals pick up 1.61 and 1.67 respectively.

Worst of the bunch

At the top of the table for dirty play, you’ll find Blackburn Rovers, who commit an average of 13.72 fouls across their 418 Premier League matches.

They lead the way by some distance, with Bolton next in line at 12.88 fouls per game, and Middlesbrough at 12.83 fouls per game.

The highest-ranked current Premier League outfit for this data is Aston Villa, who registered 12.23 fouls per game across their 798 top-flight matches.

Everybody loves Spurs

This is yet another reason why other fans (apart from those in London) will always appreciate and admire Tottenham. We are a great team to watch, we play the game the right way, and have never really been one to try and bend the rules or use dirty tactics on the pitch.
