Big Amanda Staveley developments amid rumoured Spurs investment hopes
Any Tottenham Hotspur fan hoping to see Amanda Staveley invest in the club anytime soon may be feeling slightly less optimistic about that happening after the latest business update behind the former Newcastle United stakeholder put her economic position in doubt.
Businesses closing down
Staveley was the driving force behind the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United, but stepped away from her role there at the end of last season.
Since then, she has been rumoured to be looking for her next sporting project to invest in, and Tottenham Hotspur has long been mooted as the most likely candidate.
Staveley was even spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the weekend to watch the NFL game between the Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But, the latest updates on Staveley’s business portfolio suggest things are perhaps going in the wrong direction, with two of her firms closing their doors.
First, PCP Capital Partners was liquidated (Bloomberg). That is the firm Staveley was reportedly looking to use to buy a stake in Spurs, which certainly does not bode well.
Then, in an official update filed with Companies House, another of Staveley’s firms was liquidated. This came just one week after Cantervale, as it was previously known, changed its name to Redstart Leisure Limited.
Daniel Levy wants investor
As far back as April of this year, Daniel Levy has been publicly stating that he and the Spurs board would like an investor to come in and inject more money into the club (The Athletic).
Levy said he is looking to “capitalise on our long-term potential, to continue to invest in the teams and undertake future capital projects.”
Better the devil you know
While the idea of Spurs having new investors and more money pumped into the club, who’s to say that someone like Amanda Staveley wouldn’t come in and cause more issues? These businesses winding up may well be innocuous, or they could be something more problematic, and I’d rather the club not take that kind of risk.
