Sholing 0-0 Poole Town – Match Report

Manager Steve Tully made two changes from the 0-0 draw with Winchester City as Josh Staunton and Tyrique Clarke made their way into the starting eleven.

The game got underway with both sides showing glimpses of promise.

The best chance of the half fell to Poole as Rafa Ramos’ initial shot was well saved with the rebound also being denied by Ross Worner.

The hosts went close on the half-hour mark through Billy Stedman, but he was denied by a great stop from Cam Plain.

Sholing grew into the game as the half progressed but neither side were able to open the scoring.

It was the hosts that started the second half on the front foot as Stedman was played through in behind but was denied due to some brilliant last man defending from Harry Thomas.

Ex-Poole player Jordan Chiedozie had his effort well saved after great work down the flank to create an angle for himself.

Substitute Toby Holmes thought he had taken the lead on the hour mark, but the game remained goalless due to a great save from Worner who tipped it on to the post.

Sholing went close in the final few moments of the encounter but were unable to break down a resolute Poole defence.

A flurry of substitutions for both teams and continuous end-to-end action but goals were to no avail as the game drifted to a goalless conclusion.

A good performance from both sides on an afternoon where it really could have gone either way.

After the game, assistant manager Luke Burbidge said: “Sholing are a very good side, we knew coming here was going to be a tough test.”

Looking ahead to Tuesday’s game against Havant & Waterlooville, Burbidge said: “They’ve just been relegated, and we need to be ready, we’ll expect another really tough encounter.”
