Tottenham player admits he is ‘proud’ to be linked with move to European giant

Tottenham Hotspur’s start to the season has been up and down, to say the least with a lack of ability to kill off a game.

A search for a new right-back is the last thing Tottenham need

While some players have been playing considerably below their usual level, Pedro Porro has been one of the more consistent performers within Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side this season.

Porro’s form saw him rewarded with a re-call to the Spanish national team for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Serbia.

The 25-year-old has started each of Tottenham’s seven Premier League 2024/25 fixtures to date having firmly established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back under Ange Postecoglou last season, which resulted in Emerson Royal joining AC Milan earlier this summer in the quest for regular game time.

Porro has emerged as a transfer target for Real Madrid, CaughtOffSide claimed last week after Dani Carvajal sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, a ruptured external collateral ligament and a ruptured popliteus tendon in his right leg which required surgery.

What has Pedro Porro said about playing for Real Madrid?

The right-back, who is preparing for the international double header was asked about the prospect of potential interest from Real Madrid.

He told Relevo: “Of course I’m proud with these links, it means I’m doing things well.

“If that happens one day, it happens. Now I’m fully focused on my club, Tottenham.”

Pedro Porro needs to keep playing well for Tottenham

If Porro does hold a strong desire to play for the La Liga giants in the future, he needs to put in strong displays week after week for Tottenham and also tighten up on the defensive aspect of his game, where he can often be caught out of position in his own half.

There is no doubting the fact that going forward is the strongest part of what he can bring to a team, with his delivery from out wide being a key part, but as mentioned above, the defensive frailties are currently what is stopping him from being considered as one of the top right-backs in Europe.

The fact that he was overlooked for Spain’s Euro 2024 squad this summer in favour of Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella was a surprise, but, hopefully, he will be given the opportunity to add to his current tally of three caps in the upcoming double-header.
