Sullivan suffered torn ACL in Sunday’s match against Orlando

Washington, D.C. (10/09/2024) – Washington Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan has been placed on the season-ending injury (SEI) list and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season as she rehabs a torn ACL, the club announced today. Sullivan suffered the injury late in Sunday evening’s match against Orlando and will remain with the team throughout her recovery, working closely with the Spirit’s Performance, Medical and Innovation department.

An important piece of the Spirit midfield, Sullivan started all 21 regular season matches she appeared in for the club in 2024, tallying two goals in the process. With Sullivan seeing the field, the Spirit earned a 15-5-1 record during the 2024 regular season. Since being drafted by the Spirit with the first overall pick in 2018, Sullivan has made 134 appearances for the club across all NWSL competitions. She has 16 goal contributions across over 11,000 minutes of action, none more important than her penalty kick equalizer in the second half of the 2021 NWSL Championship, which the Spirit would win after extra time.

At the international level, Sullivan has extensive experience with the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT). Since earning her first call-up to the senior team as a junior at Stanford, Sullivan has made 52 appearances and tallied three goals and five assists for the USWNT. Sullivan made her major tournament debut at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, starting all four of the side’s matches in Australia and New Zealand.

Sullivan is originally from Lorton, Virginia and was a member of the Washington Spirit reserve team before she was drafted by the club with the first overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft. Prior to turning pro, Sullivan played college soccer at Stanford University, tallying 20 goals and 19 assists in 87 matches played over four seasons with the Cardinal. Sullivan, a three-year team captain, also earned the MAC Hermann Trophy as the top player in the country following her senior season.
