Jeremy Swayman Shares First Comments About New Bruins Deal

Jeremy Swayman will be protecting the Bruins' net for the long haul.

Boston on Sunday made a significant investment in Swayman, who signed a new eight-year contract with an average annual value of $8.25 million. The deal made the 25-year-old one of the NHL's highest-paid goaltenders, while the Bruins added crucial security to one of the most important positions on the ice.

Less than one hour after Boston announced Swayman's new contract, the club's social media team released a video of the star netminder addressing his fans.

"Hey, fans. Sway here. I'm so excited to be back," Swayman said in the video. "I thank all of you for all the support throughout the entire process. But we got a lot of new beginnings to start and I cannot wait to get going."

Supporters of the Black and Gold will have to be a little more patient as they wait to see Swayman back in between the pipes. Newcomer Joonas Korpisalo, acquired in the offseason Linus Ullmark trade with the Ottawa Senators, is expected to start in net Tuesday when Boston visits the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.

But it probably won't be too much longer until Swayman is back on the ice and showing the hockey world why the Bruins were so keen on keeping a Spoked-B on his sweater.
