Lee Carsley makes Kobbie Mainoo decision, another United star dropped by England boss

0 8

England manager Lee Carsley has named his squad for the upcoming Nations League games against Greece and Finland.

The Three Lions started their Nations League campaign with a 2-0 win over Ireland last month before beating Finland by the same scoreline.

Harry Maguire featured in just one of those games, and he has now been left out of the England squad following a brief period on the sidelines.

The Manchester United star has travelled for the Europa League game at Porto tonight, but he may not start, having just trained after his injury.

While Maguire misses the cut, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has reclaimed his position and will be aiming to impress Carsley in the upcoming games.

The United graduate has been a revelation for club and country this year and has another opportunity to establish himself as a key player for England.

He is bound to face competition this time around, considering he is competing with Angel Gomes and Conor Gallagher for one position in midfield.

Maguire has been a mainstay in the England squad over the years. He was regularly picked by former England boss Gareth Southgate irrespective of his playing time at United.

Carsley clearly has a different point of view. He has made a surprise but justifiable decision to drop Maguire, who has been in-and-out of the starting plans under manager Erik ten Hag.

The centre-back has started the last two games in the Carabao Cup and Europa League, but his reduced minutes in the top-flight could be a reason behind the England snub.
