Alan Shearer names four Tottenham players in Team of the Week
On the back of Tottenham’s dominant display against Manchester United, Alan Shearer has named four Spurs players in his Premier League Team of the Week.
Spurs send a clear statement
Heading into the game at Old Trafford, the narrative was that it was a battle between two teams who have had poor starts to the season and two managers who were under pressure.
However, Spurs showed on Sunday just why there is a lot of optimism surrounding what Ange Postecoglou is building in North London.
The away side were utterly dominant, playing most of their football in United’s half, with the home side struggling to even play out of their own third for large parts.
In the end, the 3-0 scoreline flattered Erik Ten Hag’s men, with Tottenham failing to make the most of the chances that they created.
Shearer’s Team of the Week
Unsurprisingly, Spurs players dominate Shearer’s Team of the Week, with four of the players who started on Sunday making it into the side.
The Newcastle legend named Micky van de Ven, who helped his side keep a clean sheet and produced the assist of the season so far with his barnstorming run and inch-perfect pass.
Two of Tottenham’s goalscorers, Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski, also made the team, as did James Maddison after his typically enterprising performance in the middle of the park.
Spurs’ unsung hero
One Tottenham star who was perhaps unlucky not to make Shearer’s eleven was Rodrigo Bentancur, who has quietly delivered some outstanding performances over the last few weeks.
The Uruguayan is keeping out Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr from the starting eleven and is pulling strings impressively in the base of Spurs’ midfield.
The 27-year-old is showing signs that he is getting back to the levels that he was at prior to his ACL injury.
