There are perhaps some cracks starting to emerge at Spurs over the last few weeks, with an increasing number of supporters seeming to question Postecoglou’s methods.

While the Australian still has the backing of the majority, the growing discontent was certainly visible at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Wednesday.

A section of the away section made their displeasure known when Postecoglou decided to replace Bergvall with James Maddison on 62 minutes as the Swede had impressed in his first start for the club.

To make matters worse, the home side took the lead just a minute after that change but thankfully for the Spurs boss, his side managed to turn around the game with two late strikes to seal progression to the next round.

Postecoglou does not care about fan boos

Postecoglou praised Bergvall’s display, insisting that his decision to take him off was not a reflection on the 18-year-old’s performance.

When asked about the fans booing the substitution, the Tottenham boss told Football.London: “I don’t make substitutions by poll, mate. So, I’m sure the fans have got their own opinions, but yeah, Lucas, like I said that’s his first sort of significant game time for quite a while.

“What I didn’t want was us pushing guys over the edge today, that’s why we took Destiny off at halftime as well. We already had a couple of injuries, and I had some pretty good players on the bench that I thought could make an impact, but it doesn’t take away from Lucas’s performance.

“I thought he was outstanding tonight. They’re going to play a lot of football for us and hopefully getting through tonight, whether it’s 90 minutes for Archie or you know, 60, 70 for Lucas, will put them in a good space.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It did not sound like the majority of the travelling section were booing but those who were at the stadium would be able to better assess the situation. Bergvall certainly did well enough to show that he is ready to start matches if he is required to.
