Preview: Glasgow City (A)
Hibs Women head to Petershill Park for the first time this season on Sunday!
THE LOWDOWN
Kick-off for our SWPL fixture with Glasgow City kicks off at 1pm on Sunday 22 September at Petershill Park.
Sunday's encounter will be a dress rehearsal for the SWPL Cup clash between the two clubs that will take place in two weekend's time - again at Petershill Park.
Grant Scott's side head into the first meeting with confidence following last Sunday's convincing 6-1 win over newly-promoted Queen's Park at Meadowbank Stadium.
20-year-old striker Eilidh Adams bagged a hat-trick to reach a fantastic half-century of goals for Hibernian FC as the Hibees romped to victory on home turf.
Centre-back Poppy Lawson netted on her return to the starting XI after a few weeks on the sidelines, while Abbie Ferguson and Kathleen McGovern each found the net in the first-half.
Centre-forwards Adams and McGovern extended their goal tallies to eight and seven, respectively, for the season after just seven games played.
THE HOSTS
City have started the 2024/25 as one would expect, winning six and losing just once to start the season strongly.
The Petershill club sit in third-place at the time of writing - level on points with Rangers and Hearts (18) and two points ahead of Celtic and Hibs (16). Celtic could overtake City when they play Montrose on Thursday (19 September) evening, however.
An away trip to face Glasgow City is always a tough battle, though our two visits west to face Leanne Ross' side so far this year have both ended in positive - and extremely dramatic - fashion.
In February, the Hibees held the Glasgow side to a 1-1 draw in the Scottish Cup. Centre-back Leah Eddie nullified Lauren Davidson's early strike to set up a nervy penalty shoot-out in front of the home support.
Adams, Michaela McAlonie, Jorian Baucom and Lawson all converted from the spot, before Joelle Murray sparked jubilant celebrations when she stepped up to slam home the clincher with our sixth and final spot kick.
A final league meeting came in May at Petershill, with the Hibees traling 2-0 in the 80th minute. Baucom netted with 10 to go to bring a result within reach, with a thunderous hit from Lawson levelling the tie deep into stoppage-time.
