Paul Merson predicts how many goals Solanke will score for Spurs this season

Paul Merson believes that Dominic Solanke will come good at Tottenham but suggests that the striker has to come to terms with the increased scrutiny that comes with playing for a big club.

Tottenham paid up to £65m for Solanke

Solanke was the most expensive signing of the summer across the Premier League, with Tottenham reportedly paying an initial £55m for the Englishman, with the fee potentially rising to £65m including add-ons (TEAMtalk).

Some pundits are not convinced by the transfer, with the likes of Jamie Carragher suggesting that the 26-year-old would struggle to live up to that price tag (Sky Sports).

Unfortunately, Solanke has not had much of an opportunity to prove his doubters wrong, having played just one game since his switch, with an ankle injury keeping him out of the clashes against Everton and Newcastle.

How many goals will Solanke score this season?

The centre-forward has an opportunity to be a hero this Sunday if he starts the North London derby, and Merson believes that the former Cherries man could end up getting around 20 goals this season if he soon gets up and running.

The former Arsenal man told Sky Sports: “Dominic Solanke is a good signing and takes Tottenham to another level.

“What he’s got to get used to is, if you miss a few good chances, then you’re under the microscope. With no disrespect, when you’re playing for Bournemouth and you miss three chances, there are no headlines about it.

“He’ll have to get used to being at a big club and putting his chances away. When he starts scoring, I think he could get 20 goals this season.”

The sooner Solanke gets his first goal the better as the pressure will undoubtedly start to mount if he goes a couple of games without scoring, given the high price tag he arrived for this summer.
