Colombia vs Argentina was not without controversy

Colombia overcame the Copa America and World Champions thanks to a controversial 60th-minute penalty, which was converted by James Rodriguez.

The protestations from the Argentine camp about the penalty decision continued after the final whistle, with Romero even picking up a yellow card for his complaints.

This means that the Tottenham man is suspended for the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela next month.

Romero made a gesture towards the Colombia fans

RCN Noticias have now accused the Argentine players of making derogatory gestures at the Colombia fans after the full-time whistle, with the Spurs star at the thick of it.

They say that Emi Martinez could be sanctioned after he pushed away a Colombian camera operator who was filming him up close while Romero pointed to the world champions’ patch on his jersey in an apparent gesture to the home fans.

The publication refers to the centre-back’s gesture as ‘controversial, ‘unnecessary’ and ‘shameful’ after his side were beaten on the night.

Spurs Web Opinion

While instigating away fans is never advisable, players are human and they are allowed to respond when they are being jeered all game. This action by Romero certainly is not ‘derogatory’ and is well within the line.
