Red Sox Shake Up Bullpen Before Pivotal Yankees Matchup
The Red Sox made multiple roster moves to their bullpen before their Saturday matinee matchup against the New York Yankees.
Boston annouced in a press release that it recalled Bailey Horn from Triple-A Worcester and selected Zach Penrod to the active roster from Triple-A Worcester. Relievers Cam Booser and Zack Kelly were optioned to the WooSox. Catcher Tyler Heineman was desginated for assignment.
Penrod pitched 35 1/3 innings for Double-A Portland 27 1/3 innings for Triple-A Worcester, recording a 4.16 ERA with 93 strikeouts this season. The Red Sox signed the left-handed pitcher was signed last offseason.
Horn has a 6.35 ERA in 17 innings with Boston this season. He was acquired from the Chicago White Sox this season and also owns a 2.25 ERA in 28 innings with 32 strikeouts with Triple-A Worcester.
Kelly and Booser had forgettable outings Friday night after the duo allowed a combined five innings, including an Aaron Judge grand slam, that helped the Yankees come back from a 4-0 deficit. Kelly had a 3.97 ERA in 56 2/3 innings with 61 strikeouts with Boston this season. Booser had a 3.38 ERA in 42 2/3 innings with 43 strikeouts with Boston this season.
