Djed Spence is out of Europa League squad

There has been much speculation about the players who may or may not make it into Postecoglou‘s squad for the Europa League, and much confusion about the rules enforcing those decisions.

But, the time has now come for the Spurs boss to make the big calls, and Football.London have revealed which players are in the squad for those first eight games of the competition.

The big headline from the squad registration is that Djed Spence has not been included among the 23-man squad he named on Wednesday night.

That comes as quite a shock, as Spence was thought to have worked his way back into the good books at Spurs after an impressive summer. It is suspected Archie Gray will now fill in at right-back when needed.

Sergio Reguilon has also been left out of the squad, but that will not come as a surprise to anyone.

The full Tottenham Europa League squad

Postecoglou has selected four goalkeepers in his squad: Guglielmo Vicario, Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, and Alfie Whiteman.

With no Spence or Reguilon, there are just six recognised defenders in the selection: Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin, Ben Davies, and Destiny Udogie.

Postecoglou has included plenty of midfielders, though, picking the following: Yves Bissouma, James Maddison, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Pape Sarr, and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Up top, there are four attackers: Heung-min Son, Timo Werner, Richarlison, and Dominic Solanke.

Squad changes can be made if and when Spurs make it past the group stage, prior to the knockout rounds.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am stunned by the decision to leave Spence out of this squad.

The fact he can play right-back or left-back would have been enough for me to pick him so he can provide cover on either side. I would personally have left Fraser Forster out.
