Date and time revealed for Coventry City vs Tottenham in the Carabao Cup

Tottenham Hotspur will face Coventry City in the third round of the Carabao Cup later this month, and now we know exactly when the game will take place.

Date set for Coventry game

The draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup took place last week, pitting Tottenham against the Championship side as they begin their mission to win a trophy under Ange Postecoglou and end a 16-year wait for silverware.

Spurs are going to have to travel to the Coventry Building Society Arena for the game, with the Championship side hosting the Lilywhites.

Now, the official Spurs account on X has shared the news that the game will take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The match is scheduled for an 8 pm kick-off.

In a change to normal plans, the third round of the Carabao Cup will be taking place over a two-week period, in the weeks commencing September 16 and September 21, with games scheduled for either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spurs need to progress this year

The League Cup was the last trophy Spurs won, way back in 2008. Now, it presents another great opportunity for the club to end its trophy drought.

But, if they are to do so, Postecoglou will have to take his side further than last year, when the Lilywhites crashed out in the third round. A 1-1 draw with Fulham led to a penalty shootout defeat, with Postecoglou criticised at the time for making wholesale changes to his team.

Coventry City progressed from the second round thanks to a 1-0 win over Oxford United. Tottenham’s opponents know all about putting together a cup run, too, after making it to the semi-final of the FA Cup last season before losing to eventual winners Manchester United in controversial circumstances.

This is a game we simply have to win. We should have enough to see off Coventry, as long as we don’t mess with the lineup too much. I think Postecoglou will take the Carabao Cup seriously, especially after the failure last year.
