‘Going to get until at least…’ - Gary Neville predicts when Man Utd could sack Ten Hag after 3-0 loss to Liverpool

Manchester United suffered their second Premier League defeat of 2024-25 at the hands of Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday, with the visitors strolling to a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The Merseyside club found themselves 2-0 up heading into half-time before bagging another goal against a toothless and woeful Red Devils side in the second-half.

Man United lost 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend and could not bounce back against Liverpool, with manager Erik ten Hag likely to find himself under growing pressure to deliver the needed results very early into the season.

Some are already calling for the head of the Dutchman, and while Gary Neville thinks he is going to get until at least Christmas before Man United even consider sacking him, Jamie Carragher does not believe parting with him before then would raise any eyebrows.

“I think Ten Hag is going to get until at least Christmas,” the former Red Devils star said on Sky Sports.

“The board aren’t going to do anything stupid. He’s going to get a few months, there’s no doubt about that.”

“Why would it be stupid?” Carragher replied.

“We can see after three games what Arne Slot is about. After two years of Ten Hag, we still can’t see it.”

The Man United boss came close to being sacked a couple of months ago, but winning the FA Cup against Manchester City at the end of last season played a huge role in the decision of the Old Trafford club to retain him and hand him a new deal.

They were linked with several managers but eventually stuck with Ten Hag, supporting him in the summer transfer window by spending £206 million on the signings of Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Man United return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to face Southampton on September 14 and will hope to immediately bounce back and get back to winning ways.
