INEOS have stamped their authority with smart transfer clauses at Man United - view

Manchester United have operated in this summer transfer window with an impressive and consistent strategy which is a far cry from their recent scattergun approach.

The Red Devils have taken an abysmal approach in recent years but INEOS have broken that practice.

The new United hierarchy did not shy away from selling their academy players or young talents.

Many eyebrows were raised when Alvaro Fernandez was sold to Benfica early in the window.

With question marks on the fitness of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, many expected Fernandez to receive first-team opportunities.

Instead, he was allowed to depart in a £7.7 million deal. United inserted a buy-back clause, matching rights and a sell-on fee clause.

Willy Kambwala and Facundo Pellistri also departed on similar conditions.

United knew the potential arrival of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt would block Kambwala’s route to the first team.

A move to La Liga side Villarreal will see him get regular game-time and an opportunity to meet his potential.

If he emerges as a superstar, United may roll out the red carpet for his grand return to Old Trafford.

The sell-on clause aids the club in benefiting a sizable share from the future move of the player.

United have inserted a hefty 50 per cent and 45 per cent sell-on fee clause for Mason Greenwood and Pellistri respectively.

Hannibal Mejbri joined Burnley late in the window for a £5.4m fixed fee with a sell-on clause worth an initial 50 per cent. It will reduce over time.
