James Maddison missed out on the Euros

Maddison has been honest about the fact that he was quite devastated to be left out of the England squad for the Euros earlier this summer.

The attacking midfielder has spoken about using that as added motivation to prove his doubters wrong this season and force his way back into the Three Lions set-up (The Standard).

The 27-year-old has certainly played with plenty of fire in his belly at the start of the season, being one of Tottenham’s best players in their two league games against Leicester City and Everton.

Maddison picked up an assist in each of the fixtures and looked a threat whenever he got on the ball, with the former Foxes star appearing to have returned to the levels he showed prior to his injury last season.

However, the Tottenham man has not done enough to force himself into Lee Carsley’s first England squad for their upcoming Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is not bad news for Tottenham at all as Maddison will get some rest over the international break and he will be hungry to show Carsley that he has made a mistake by leaving him out.

If the 27-year-old keeps playing the way he did against Leicester and Everton, there is no doubt that he will be back into the Three Lions set-up sooner rather than later.
