Tottenham could do with a new left-back

While Daniel Levy is known for his knack of pushing through late deals, it is unclear whether the Lilywhites will look to make any more additions this time around.

There are not really any gaping holes in the squad at the moment that the club would be desperate to address, with Ange Postecoglou having at least two players for every position.

However, the Tottenham head coach did remark after his side’s 4-0 win over Everton that the club will be on the lookout for any late market opportunities ( Sky Sports).

Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence and Ben Davies

Gold has now pointed out in his latest column that Postecoglou’s decision to bring on Djed Spence over Ben Davies at left-back on Saturday is evidence that the Australian plans on using the Welshman as centre-back cover.

If that is indeed the case, the journalist questions if Spence can operate out of his natural position against top-quality sides, pointing out that he was exposed while playing as a left-back against Bayern Munich in preseason.

Gold thus suggests that a late deal to sign a left-back might be beneficial for Postecoglou, particularly if the Spurs boss wants to rotate his squad for the Europa League and the cup competitions.

Postecoglou might have decided that between Spence and Davies, he has sufficient cover for the left-back role this season.

The Tottenham head coach also has the option of playing Van de Ven at left-back in case of an emergency.
