James Maddison thinks Spurs squad responded well to Postecoglou criticism

James Maddison is happy that he and his Tottenham teammates showed ruthlessness in the final third against Everton after Ange Postecoglou criticised them for not being decisive enough against Leicester City.

Ange was unhappy with Leicester draw

Postecoglou did not look a happy man after his side’s 1-1 draw against Leicester last Monday in the club’s opening game of the season.

One could understand why that was the case as Tottenham had more than enough opportunities to put the game beyond the home side in the first half but they were extremely wasteful at the top end of the pitch, thus allowing the Foxes to come back into the game.

It was a different story against Everton on Saturday, with the Lilywhites having their foot on the Toffees’ throat right from the start of the game and continuing to be unrelenting through the 90 minutes.

Spurs were more ruthless against Everton

They ensured that their dominance was reflected in the scoreline, putting four past Sean Dyche’s men, with Maddison insisting that the players gave Postecoglou exactly what he wanted.

The attacking midfielder told Sky Sports about the win: “The scoreline was quite devastating when you look at 4-0, but it was thoroughly deserved.

“We put away the chances we didn’t put away on Monday night [against Leicester], that normally means three points. It was nice to take the criticism from the manager of being more ruthless and the next game we’ve put it into practice.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how open we are as a team, a 1-0 lead is almost never going to be enough, which is why we need to be ruthless and take our chances.

Our second goal against Everton came at the right time, with Son being quite sharp to take advantage of Pickford’s mistake and it was game over at that point.
