Cristian Romero wants to bring his experience of winning big trophies with Argentina to Tottenham Hotspur, as he and his North London teammates are determined to get their hands on some silverware.

Romero has been one of the main architects of Argentina’s historic success over the last few years, playing a key role in the nation’s back-to-back Copa America wins and their historic World Cup victory.

The centre-back, who has emerged as one of the leaders of his national side as well as his club side, is now keen to keep adding to his trophy cabinet over the coming years.

The 26-year-old will have to be at his best and stay fit if Ange Postecoglou’s men are to challenge for major honours this season and the centre-back is confident that Tottenham are prepared to take the next step.

Romero is determined to see Spurs success

Romero, who found the back of the net for Spurs in their 4-0 thumping of Everton on Saturday, spoke about his desire to continue winning trophies with Argentina and confessed that he tries to instil a similar mentality among his Tottenham teammates.

The centre-back told Telemundo: “I think I’ve achieved absolutely everything with my team (Argentina) and it’s beautiful. It’s not easy, but as soon as you’ve achieved everything, you want to take it to the next level. We have the possibility because we have a beautiful group and that’s the mentality of a player who makes it to the national team.

“It wasn’t easy to get the things we got, and we don’t want to give away anything. Even if it’s a friendly or a draw, we don’t want to give away anything.

“We have the same mentality and let’s hope we keep getting things. Obviously, we’re not going to win trophies all the time, but the most important thing is to get to the top of the table.

“In terms of the club, my wish is to try and win a trophy. I try to get up every day and send a message to my teammates. I think it’s going to be a great season, and we have a lot of games to play.”

While it is still early days in the season, there are already some clear signs of improvement, technically, tactically and in terms of mentality.
