Paul Gascoigne compares ‘attacking’ Ange Postecoglou to ‘fantastic’ Terry Venables

Tottenham Hotspur fans should be very pleased to have Ange Postecoglou at the helm, as Paul Gascoigne has been discussing the Spurs boss and suggested he plays the same kind of football as the legendary Terry Venables.

Attack is the only way for Tottenham

In just over a year at the club, Postecoglou has made it abundantly clear what he expects of the team and what he hopes to deliver for Spurs fans.

Attacking and entertaining football is the key for the Australian, and he refuses to change his ways for better or worse.

Speaking to Techopedia about the current Spurs manager, Gascoigne drew comparisons between Postecoglou and his former England boss, the late, great, Terry Venables.

Gascoigne said: “I’d never really heard of him but he looks confident though. He did well at Celtic. He’s trying to bring the attacking brand of football back to Tottenham, isn’t he? Yeah, we had that with Terry Venables. What a man to play under, he was fantastic.

“They attack and that’s what Tottenham like. It could be they get beat 4-0 or win 5-0. I think you need to let the players go out there and express themselves, enjoy it. That’s the main thing.”

Postecoglou has to prove himself

Gascoigne continued, insisting the talk is good from Postecoglou, but now we must see proof that his methods can bring success.

He added: “He seems interesting, reading some of the interviews he’s done in the paper, he seems confident so he’s got to back his words up – or the players have to back his words up as well.

“Now, so much of it is the papers and social media and you’ve got everyone on their phones and all that. The pressure is really on, especially at the top, it’s 24/7.”
