Report: Spurs are ‘ready to offer’ over £25m for new player this month

Tottenham Hotspur may end up signing a new full-back before the transfer window closes this month, with the club reportedly ready to send an offer of £25m to bag one of their targets.

Despite the resurgence of Djed Spence, the quality of Pedro Porro, and the versatility of Archie Gray, who can also operate at right-back as well as in the middle of the park, it seems Spurs may yet move to sign another full-back this summer.

A new report from L’Equipe states Monaco’s Vanderson is still being eyed up by Tottenham, and the Lilywhites are thought to be “ready to offer” in the region of €30m (£25.6m) for the Brazilian.

No offer has been made at this stage, and it is suggested Monaco would be unwilling to sell Vanderson unless a “substantial offer” is sent their way.

The French side are on the verge of signing Jordan Teze from PSV Eindhoven, but it is believed the Dutchman is not a replacement for Vanderson and will not force the 23-year-old out of the club (Foot Mercato).

According to UOL, it may even take an offer closer to €40m (£34.1m) for Monaco to part with the player, but that figure is more what the Ligue 1 side hope to earn rather than the expected fee.

Spurs might not even want a full-back

It is worth remembering that just last week, Alasdair Gold had claimed any reports linking Spurs with a move for any new full-back were ‘wide of the mark’ and that there was no truth in the idea of the club being interested in Vanderson.

I’m not sure why we would be looking to sign another right-back, when it’s clearly left-back that we need cover for.

I know Spence can play there, but it’s not ideal to get him on the wrong side and I’d feel a lot better if we just had a recognised left-back to provide competition for Destiny Udogie.
