Ex-Celtics First-Round Pick Reportedly Joins Fierce Boston Rival

After an impressive run in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Guerschon Yabuele made it clear he was looking for another shot in the NBA.

Yabusele had his wish granted over the weekend, as the French forward landed a one-year, $2.1 million deal from the Philadelphia 76ers, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The reported pact signaled the first time Yabusele was under contract with an NBA team since July 2019.

The 28-year-old entered The Association in 2016 when the Celtics selected him 16th overall, 13 picks after Boston grabbed franchise cornerstone Jaylen Brown. Yabusele played parts of two seasons with the C's, averaging 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds per game across 74 contests. After being waived by Boston in mid-July 2019, Yabusele continued his professional basketball career in China, France and, most recently, Spain.

Yabusele is set to join a 76ers team that made a handful of noteworthy offseason moves to keep pace in the competitive Eastern Conference. The biggest transaction, of course, was signing nine-time NBA All-Star Paul George.

The Sixers as of Monday morning had the second-shortest odds (+450) at FanDuel Sportsbook to win the East this season, trailing only the reigning champion Celtics (+145).
