If anyone doubted whether Romero belonged in the conversation among the best centre-backs in the world, the Argentine delivered a fitting response at the Copa America, once again playing a key role in the South American nation’s march to the title.
Back in his home country, the 26-year-old is undoubtedly a superstar but he perhaps still has not won over parts of the English press, who consider him to be a bit too reckless.

The Argentine boasts a tackle success rate of 82.2 per cent in that time.

While Romero has the qualities one looks for in a modern-day defender, including ability on the ball, in many ways, the Argentine is almost a throwback to the past as he loves to defend and knows how to tackle, which is a dying art in the modern game.
I think this season is going to be huge in Romero’s club career.
