Seagulls exit MG Cup

0 0

THE Seagulls went out of the Nathaniel MG Cup at the first hurdle as they lost 2-0 at home to Cymru Premier side Aberystwyth Town.

A first half penalty by Niall Flint put the visitors in front at half-time, and they sealed victory and a place in the last 16 with a second goal on the break in the closing 15 minutes.

The Bay probably created more chances overall, but are still waiting for their first goal of the new campaign.

Gwion Dafydd shot straight at Aber keeper Dave Jones in the first half after a strong run by Lloyd Marsh-Hughes had earlier forced a corner, but when Cai Owen was adjudged to fouled Niall Flint in the area on 38 minutes, the Aber forward sent Rhys Williams the wrong way to convert the spot kick.

Rhys then made a great save to push an effort round the post to prevent the visitors increasing their lead before half-time.

After the break Sol Forde hit a post with a header, although the referee blew for a foul anyway, and Bay forced a couple of corners which were cleared.

The game was sealed on 76 minutes when a promising Bay attack came to nothing and Aberystwyth broeke quickly for John Owen to apply a neat finish.

In the closing minutes second half substitute Joel Giblin had a shot saved by the Aberystwyth keeper and Gwion Dafydd fired a chance over the bar after nice play by Tom Weir and new signing Josh Carey who were both introduced in the second half.
