Postecoglou is on the search for a striker

Spurs will head back to London following the match in Seoul where they will continue their pre-season preparations by welcoming Bayern Munich to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next weekend for the second match against their Bundesliga opponents.

While the fans in Korea have been treated to seeing Heung-min Son in action, they will not get to see his former teammate Harry Kane come up against Tottenham this weekend.

Kane is yet to return from his post-Euro 2024 break after he was part of the England side which lost to Spain in the final.

Tottenham are yet to replace Harry Kane

Tottenham are yet to replace Kane, who left the club on the cusp of the 2023/24 Premier League season last summer and Postecoglou was today asked about the type of striker he wants to recruit.

Last season, Postecoglou had to rely on club captain Heung-min Son predominately filling the central role, instead of his familiar position on the left.

Richarlison also played through the middle, however, the Brazilian’s injury issues meant he was unable to consistently contribute with the goalscoring responsibilities.

Postecoglou told Football.London: “At Celtic, I had Kyogo, who was a sort of out and out number nine and in Japan, I’ve always had a striker. It just depends, like last year we had to be a bit creative, it’s to fair say. You know but if Harry would have stayed I definitely would have used him!

“So I think for us what’s more important is the type of striker we get. You know we play a certain way. We demand certain things from a physical perspective from the technical aspects of it that it’s going be a striker that fits that mould.

“It’s still the area of the park we’re really probably the thinnest when I talk about squad-wise at the moment, so obviously that’s a focus for us.”

Tottenham head into the match with an unbeaten pre-season record and there is no doubt that this fixture is a considerable step up in quality.
