Patriots Rumors: Tackle Need Addressed With Depth Signing

The Patriots haven't made an impact signing to address their biggest need, but they did appear to have upgraded the margins Friday.

New England is "expect to sign" offensive tackle Kellen Diesch, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reported Thursday night that the Patriots would be bringing in the 26-year-old for a workout.

Diesch isn't going to walk in and start or anything, but he does provide some depth in a spot in which it's sorely needed. The Patriots likely are interested in his athletic profile, as he's a superb mover for someone who stands at 6-foot-7, but his overall frame is much lighter than a typically offensive lineman's.

He's a different look than the Mike Onwenu, Chuks Okorafor and Caedan Wallace's of the world.

Tyrone Wheatley Jr. was not at practice Thursday, which could mean he was involved in a corresponding move. New England currently has roster spots available, though, so one would not be required.

Diesch previously spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, though he has never appeared in an NFL game.
