Red Sox Wrap: Boston Captures First Series Win Since All-Star Break
BOSTON — The Red Sox defeated the Seattle Mariners, 3-2, on a walk-off hit from Rafael Devers in the bottom of the 10th inning on Wednesday at Fenway Park.
With the win, Boston improved its record to 57-50 while Seattle fell to 57-53.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
Boston came up short on three consecutive occasions to take a series coming out of the All-Star break, and splitting the first two with Seattle provided a fourth chance.
The front office addressed a few of the team’s gaping holes ahead of Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline, warranting four pregame roster moves. But it was ultimately up to those available to play to help direct the club out of its post-Midsummer Classic divot, and starting pitcher Brayan Bello began by undergoing a pitcher’s duel with Seattle’s George Kirby — a battle of the right-handers which tested both respective offenses to provide just enough run production to leave Fenway Park with a two-of-three series win.
After going down scoreless for the third straight inning, the Mariners took a 2-1 lead when Josh Rojas hit his sixth home run of the season.
New catcher Danny Jansen tied the game for the Red Sox in the sixth inning when he singled to right, scoring Dominic Smith.
The bullpen kept the game tied. Lucas Sims, Josh Winkowski, Kenley Jansen, and Zack Kelly combined for 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing Devers to be the hero of the game.
STARS OF THE GAME
— Devers hit his second double of the game to lift the Red Sox past the Mariners in extra innings. He finished 3-for-5 from the plate.
— Bello pitched 6 1/3 innings against the Mariners, allowing two earned runs off six hits and one walk while striking out seven batters. The 25-year-old gave Seattle’s lineup issues by holding its offense scoreless through the third and fifth innings.
— Old friend and current Mariners first baseman Justin Turner logged a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 while also being (inadvertently) involved in the weirdest play of the game. Boston’s Tyler O’Neill got tangled with Turner on the base paths during an infield pop-fly resulting in the end of the seventh inning when the Red Sox had a runner in scoring position too.
