Kenley Jansen Addresses Blown Save In Red Sox-Yankees Thriller
Kenley Jansen wasn’t able to secure a win for the Red Sox last Saturday when he blew a save in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.
Unfortunately for Boston’s closer, history repeated itself exactly one week later.
The Yankees were down to their last strike at Fenway Park when Trent Grisham tagged Jansen for an RBI double that knotted the contest at 8-8. New York went on to up three runs in the 10th and locked down a victory that evened the weekend series between American League East rivals.
It was a particularly tough loss for the Red Sox, as the Baltimore Orioles and the Kansas City Royals both lost earlier Saturday. But instead of dwelling on the defeat, Jansen looked ahead to the next challenge.
“Just go with my best pitch right there,” Jansen told reporters, per MassLive. “Didn’t execute. … Tough luck today at the Monster. But it’s a tough loss. So just gotta move on from it and get back tomorrow.”
Fortunately for the Red Sox, they will be in good hands Sunday evening when All-Star Tanner Houck toes the rubber for the finale. The right-hander will be opposite veteran southpaw Carlos Rodón.
First pitch in Boston is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
