Report: Roma agree £21m deal for winger, but it is on hold amid Spurs and Chelsea interest

Roma reportedly agreed a £21m deal with Juventus this summer, only for it to be put on hold amid interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea (Sport Italia, via Matthijs Pog).

Tottenham and Chelsea are keen on Federico Chiesa

HITC reported recently that all three of Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle had contacted Juventus about a potential deal for Chiesa this summer.

GiveMeSport previously named Spurs as the Italian winger’s ‘most likely’ destination if he swaps Serie A for the Premier League over the coming weeks.

Despite interest from Roma, CalcioMercato report that Chiesa is waiting on offers from the Premier League. Spurs are preparing a bid and Chelsea are said to be very interested too.

It has now been reported that Roma went as far as to agree a fee with Juventus for the transfer of Chiesa this summer, but the deal is now on hold (Sport Italia, via Matthijs Pog).

Whatever the reason behind the transfer speedbump, it appears to at least confirm Chiesa’s price tag this summer, following his bit-part role with Italy at the European Championships.

This lines up with the £21.6m fee Fabrizio Romano reported earlier in the transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Is it worth taking a £21.6m punt on Federico Chiesa? A few years ago, it would have been triple that fee and the Italian had the world at his feet.

My head says Spurs should play it safe and go for someone else who is both in good form and Premier League proven. My heart says it is too good a deal to pass up on.
