Red Sox Fans Will Love How Braden Montgomery Describes Game

The Red Sox selected Braden Montgomery because they believe the power-hitting outfielder has a lot to offer, and Boston’s first-round pick agrees.

The club selected Montgomery with the No. 12 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft.

“They’re getting a winner that impacts everyone around them,” Montgomery told reporters after being selected, per MLB.com’s Ian Browne.

“I like to be loud, with high energy and good vibes. I like to have fun. No one wants to be somewhere when people are dragging around and not enjoying themselves. I’m a winner and I’m going to create a winning culture wherever I’m at.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound switch-hitter recorded 27 home runs and 85 RBIs in his final season at Texas A&M (61 games). Montgomery has been lauded for his bat and draft experts see his potential as a power-hitting right-field cleanup hitter.

“I’d say it’s dynamic,” Montgomery said when asked to describe his game. “It’s impactful. Whatever I’m doing, I’m impacting the game and I’m going to help us win. I’m not letting guys take extra bases in the outfield, and then I’m hitting homers.”

Red Sox director of amateur scouting Devin Pearson admitted the organization long had been enamored by Montgomery. And Red Sox scouts were surprised he dropped to 12th after having top-10 grades by a handful of draft expects. Draft expert Keith Law even referred to Montgomery as the “steal of the draft.”
