With over 71% of the 2024 European Championships in Germany completed, the tournament has reached its business end with the knockout stages.
England find themselves on the more favourable side of the draw, having avoided heavyweights like France, Germany, Spain, and Portugal until the final in Berlin on 14th July.
But to even reach the quarter-finals, England must first navigate their way through Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.
The Three Lions topped Group C with five points, securing two clean sheets against Serbia and Slovenia while conceding very few chances. Despite this, Gareth Southgate’s side has faced criticism for their team selection, tactics, and perceived lack of flair.

Ranked seventh in FIFA’s world rankings, England are odds-on favourites to defeat 45th-placed Slovakia. Historically, England have a strong record against Slovakia, winning five of their six encounters.

If there is to be a goalscorer in this contest, it’s highly likely to be England captain Harry Kane. He has taken eight of England’s 28 shots at Euro 2024 and 30% of their 10 shots on target.
Only Phil Foden comes close to these figures, but his place in the starting XI is uncertain. Kane has the ability to lead England to the quarter-finals, having scored 44 goals in 45 appearances for Bayern Munich and 64 in 94 international matches.

Caution
Ondrej Duda is no stranger to the referee’s notebook. At Euro 2024, only two players have committed more fouls than the 29-year-old midfielder, who has been penalised seven times in three matches.
The Slovakia star has received 15 cautions in 75 international appearances and three in his last 11 starts for his country. Last season, he was booked 12 times in 33 games for Verona, averaging a card every three matches across all competitions.
