Tottenham have been linked with Jonathan David

Tottenham are thought to be on the lookout for a centre-forward this summer and it has been widely reported that David is one of the names on the club’s wishlist (HITC).

The 22-year-old has been one of the most prolific strikers in French football since his move from Gent three years ago and he finished the 2023-24 campaign with 26 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

It has previously emerged that the Canadian international has a release clause of €60m (£50.4m) on his contract ( L’Equipe via GFFN) but Gazzetta dello Sport reported ahead of the previous transfer window that the striker would be available for around €40m (£35m).

Jonathan David will be sold this summer

Back in March, TEAMtalk suggested that Man Utd are also keen on David and are expected to push Spurs for the striker’s signature.

Letang has now handed the Lilywhites and the Red Devils a boost by suggesting that the former Gent star would leave and the Lille supremo also seemed to indicate that he expects the player’s release clause to be met.

The French club’s president said (via Fabrizio Romano): “Leny Yoro and Jonathan David can leave the club this summer. Both have the ‘exit voucher’ due to their contract situation.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Spurs or any other club paying David’s £50m release clause this summer, particularly given that the striker has just a year left on his contract.

£35m would likely be enough to prise the Canadian away from Lille this summer.
