Report: Spurs mentioned as potential destination for South American forward

Tottenham Hotspur has been mentioned as a potential destination for Porto forward Evanilson this summer.

The print edition of Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias has today featured a story on potential departures from Porto this summer which was were Tottenham came into the equation.

The Brazilian enjoyed a prolific campaign for Porto despite the disapointment of finishing in third place in the Portuguese top flight behind Sporting and Benifica, he managed to score 24 times in 41 appearances across all competitions (transfermarkt).

Tottenham are yet to look to bring in a fresh face to help try and fill the void left by Harry Kane last summer following his departure to Bayern Munich from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Evanilson moved to Porto from Fluminese back in September 2020 and is yet to be capped at senior level by Brazil.

Would Evanilson be a good fit for Tottenham’s attack

Ange Postecoglou has played Heung-min Son through the middle and has had mixed success with the South Korean still looking more comfortable on the left while Richarlison has struggled with consistency due to injury issues.

With Richarlison once again being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia (talkSPORT), Tottenham certainly need to bolster their attack if they wish to compete on multiple fronts having secured a place in next season’s Europa League.

Replacing Harry Kane is an impossible task, but Tottenham certainly cannot rely fully on Heung-min Son to shoulder the majority of the goalscoring responsibility.

Tottenham bring the curtain down on their season on Wednesday when they face Newcastle in a post-season friendly in Melbourne, Australia.

SpursWeb Opinion

Tottenham need a forward who can hit the ground running with goals next season and while Evanilson has a decent tally in Portugal, we have seen the liks of Darwin Nunez find the Premier League to be a completely different animal.

If the club want a proven Premier League player who can act as a focal point for their attack, they need to look no further than Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
