Report: One game could decide whether club bid for Tottenham player this summer

John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about Tottenham’s youth sides, believes that Leeds United will make a bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Joe Rodon if they manage to beat Southampton in the playoff final this Sunday.

Rodon has had an exceptional season on loan at Leeds but the centre-back and his teammates could not do enough to ensure that the club secured an automatic promotion spot, finishing in third place.

However, they did overcome Norwich City 4-0 comfortably in the playoff semifinals to set up a final clash with Southampton at Wembley on Sunday, with the winner of that clash set to bounce straight back into the top flight.

It seems clear that Rodon’s future lies away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the centre-back only having a year left on his deal at Spurs (Transfermarkt).

However, it remains to be seen where the Welshman will end up, with reports over recent months indicating that Leeds would have to compete with various Premier League clubs for the 26-year-old’s services this summer (TEAMtalk).

Football Insider suggested recently that the Lilywhites are expected to hold out for offers in the region of £10m-£15m for the defender.

Leeds United will bid for Rodon if they get promoted

Wenham believes that it will not take Daniel Farke’s men too long to submit an offer if they beat the Saints in the Playoff final.

When asked about the centre-back’s future, the Spurs expert told Tottenham News: “Rodon’s Tottenham future is dependent on the Championship play-offs.

“Should Leeds United secure promotion, I imagine they will look to sign Rodon permanently. I imagine a bid will come in very quickly if they secure a return to the Premier League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Leeds could afford Rodon, the centre-back might think twice about moving to Elland Road if the club do not get promoted as the player is likely to receive offers from Premier League sides. So Farke’s men would have to beat Southampton to be successful in their pursuit of the Tottenham man.
