Journalist claims Tottenham’s summer transfer budget is now locked in

Transfer insider Peter O’Rourke has claimed that Tottenham’s transfer budget has been finalised after their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

Aston Villa have officially beaten Spurs to fourth place after the Lilywhties’ loss at home to Manchester City on Tuesday.

Tottenham still have some work to do to seal Europa League qualification as a defeat against Sheffield United on the final day of the season allied with Chelsea winning against Bournemouth and Man Utd beating Man City in the FA Cup final will mean that Spurs would be consigned to the Conference League.

The Telegraph reported at the start of the month that Spurs were preparing two lists of transfer targets – one if they manage to get into the Champions League and another if they fail to do so.

Tottenham drafting plans for summer spending

O’Rourke has now said that after the defeat against City, Postecoglou knows the transfer budget he will have at his disposal in the summer.

The journalist said on the Inside Track Podcast that the North London club are now formulating their plans and are looking to bring in at least four players in the coming months, with a focus on the back four.

When pressed on the positions where Spurs will strengthen, O’Rourke claimed: “Van de Ven and Romero, the cover that they need. Dragusin has come in and we’ve not really seen much of him. With Van de Ven’s injury record, and Romero’s injury record and suspensions, we know they’re not going to play a full season.

“The full-back areas as well. When Udogie and Porro are not fit, the strength in depth that they’ve got in these areas, the manager knows he needs to rejuvenate the squad.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Tottenham would be prioritising two midfielders (a number six and a number eight), a versatile defender who can play at right-back and centre-back, and one forward who can operate across the front three.
