Report: Tottenham Hotspur are looking at 19-year-old League One star
Tottenham Hotspur are set to revive their interest in Thierry Small, more than a year after they failed in a bid to sign the left-back from Southampton.
Thierry Small has already played for a number of clubs, despite only being 19 years old. Starting his career at Everton before moving on to Southampton, the youngster has spent time on loan in Scotland and now turns out for Leauge One outfit, Charlton Athletic.
He’s also put in some impressive displays for the Addicks this season since joining them in January. Across 14 appearances, Small has registered one goal and one assist (Transfermarkt), and has caught the eye of top clubs once more.
Tottenham have previously tried, and failed, to sign Small when he was at Southampton, with an £800,000 bid not quite matching the £1.2m valuation the Saints placed on the youngster in January of last year (Football Insider).
Spurs want to sign Thierry Small again
Now, however, the Lilywhites are ready to reignite their interest and will look to sign the teenage star this summer. That’s according to the latest from Football Insider, who claim the Premier League side have “set their sights” on Small once more.
The report states Charlton have offered Small a new three-year contract in an effort to stave off interest from elsewhere, with newly-promoted Derby County also looking at the left-back.
But, it is Tottenham who could end up winning the race. The player himself is expected to “weigh up his options” in the near future.
With a contract extension set to be triggered, Charlton will be able to demand a “higher transfer fee,” but there is still the chance Small decides to give his current club a “long-term commitment” rather than moving on.

I like the look of Thierry Small, and he could well be a great back-up option for Destiny Udogie. We definitely need a left-back, but it has to be someone who understands they will not be playing week in week out, and the idea of developing at a top club like Spurs could be too much to turn down for Small.
