UCL finalist 'dreams' of Premier League move, was 'in the plans' of Man Utd - report

Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries was in the plans of Manchester United until January, according to Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (page 10).

The Red Devils have been fancied to sign a new right-back during the summer transfer window with the uncertainty over the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Wan-Bissaka’s current deal expires in the summer of 2025 and he could be offloaded for a reasonable fee if no progress is made over a new long-term contract.

Dumfries has been mentioned as a top target for the past few years, but Gazzetta dello Sport claim that United are no longer sending signals for the Dutchman.

INEOS have shifted their focus from Dumfries

Dumfries has been a key player for the Nerazzurri over the past few seasons, but the Serie A outfit are now contemplating his exit, having failed to negotiate a new deal.

The right-back has been linked with United due to the Dutch connection with manager Erik ten Hag, but it appears the club are no longer interested in landing his signature.

In our view, INEOS may have influenced the decision. Dumfries is already 28 years of age and he may only be considered as a stop-gap signing for the next couple of seasons.

Instead, the new management under Sir Jim Ratcliffe may want a good long-term signing.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong would be an ideal recruit in our opinion. He has managed 24 goal contributions this term and can be signed for just €40 million due to a release clause.

United will need to convince Frimpong into a transfer. They must do so before Euro 2024. The 23-year-old’s buy-out clause will expire before the start of the tournament in Germany.
